The $59 Surprise: How Good is This Ultra-Small APS-C Lens?
I want to start in photography and i found an xt1 with an meike 1.7/35 for 450 bucks. Is it worth to buy it ?
Dos this lens have auto focus? I, looking for a lightweight zoom for my "cinema" Sony FS7 Mark2 an ASPC camera. Any thoughts?
Yes, it does.
One year later I still have not upgraded my SL1. Third parties are ow allowed in on a very limited basis. Still waiting for the R10 Mk II! iPhone 16 Pro May surpass what the R10 can produce in the near future.
I would really like it if they would release more of these, and with AF. I do animals, and they don't give you second takes or time to focus and compose - what you get is what you get. I would pay a bit more for one of these with AF than I would for a normal AF prime by the same company, despite the lower optical performance.
No 4K though.. 😞
Never had a gimbal - just bought this one. Excited to use it - thanks for the explainer!
Brilliant and thorough review - thank you.
What a ridiculous title, smh
Mark you had me at that burger pic lol. Burger time tonight thanks lol 😊
Thank you for this video
Love the intensity, you talk like you give a shit. Thank you🎉
Are they weather sealed?
3:45 Omg you're a fellow Melbournian!
Look at Sigma for zooms and Viltrox for primes!
Hi, is it possible to change the framing of the person in angle? For example filming only the bottom half of a person ? Thank you for this great video🙏🏼
X-E2 + Voigtländer 27 mm f2…. Boom. Done.
👍
I love this artistic flare. Can you do a "Best flare effect" lens comparation?
Mark, thank you for sharing knowledge of budget fuji setups. very helpful
Great video! But it is very funny to hear Americans get the metric system wrong 😅
What was wrong?
@@markwiemels just the scale. There was an accidental addition of a decimal at the end, making the close focus at around 7 meters in stead of 70cm. It’s very easy to do, but it sticks out very easily for us watching from Europe 😁 But the video was very informative and now I am looking at getting a set for myself, so thank you for making a great video!
Hey Mark, I've been watching a few of your more recent videos, and just stumbled into this one. It's a bit of a shock compared to your normal content. It sounds like you went through a hell of a journey (as they say). Well done for finding the luck and determination to get this far. I'll also throw some compliments to your wife/spouse in coping with your illness and helping you get through it. That can be as hard a challenge I think. I'll be driving into more of your content over time. Kevin.
Hey @Mark would you be interested in doing a video on the Meike 55mm 1.4 AF? It's another offering in this range but hardly anyone's done any videos on it. Very curious how it stacks up against these. It's the only budget 55mm out there that has an aperture ring. Which is a must for Fuji.
I will check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
EWWWWWW That's cool!!!
Hey Mark. Based on other reviews of several of these inexpensive lenses you have reviewed, I think that flaring, contrast, sharpness, etc., can be different depending on sensor size and technology. Therefore, I think you should consider testing some of these lenses on different brand cameras besides Fuji (Sony, Nikon, etc.) and maybe even different formats, like micro four thirds, where others have commented that traits such as excessive flare are not as pronounced. Just a thought...
Good idea! Thanks!
big circular rings on the hooks , small carabiners on the straps and you got the best thing , you want to be secure and not use the strap ? get a finger inside the ring and it works like a charm ( i have used it for long hours doesnt hurt me ) works with wrist straps , also normal neck straps i use that because i dont like the peak design thing , i am paranoid by those pesky lil strings i would rather have a piece of steel be the breaking point that a mm thick nylon
Is there anything like this I can use on a compact which only has a lanyard loop on one side?
These are great little lights! Nice stuff, Mark.
Thanks Mate.
Excellent video, as always! I lean toward clean and clinical, with the option to add a little of what I like in post🤷♂!
I personally prefer OP/TECH. Very light, comfortable and functional. Inexpensive. Not quite as easy to attach one-handed, but detach yes. Very secure and proven over decades. Perfect for connecting both a camera and its case independently, so you can pull the camera out of a case then just let the case go without delay. The clips slide up and down the straps for fantastic camera positioning flexibility. The shoulder strap is shaped and padded well for fit and comfort. And there's a dual strap option which allows hanging another piece of gear (I often add a small lens) on the left side of the torso.
Are you related to Mark Denney? His long lost twin? Same look, voice, mannerisms.... It's uncanny. Anyway, great channel!
Great video man, thanks.
I've watched a lot of Arles videos since their release, and while they look absolutely fantastic, comparing them to the true high end like Cooke, Angénieux, Arri or Leitz is overselling it. Imo they seem better than Sigma Primes but not as good as the Tokina Vistas. Considering the Sigmas are around 5k each and the Tokinas range from 6 to 8k, it's still a fantastic value proposition. But still not quite competing with the top shelf (and how could we expect them to, when the Arles set costs less than a single Prime from the top lines?)
i did always want an array of mini lights i can control remotely in my kit . . .
I want to get into photography. bouight a 600D with broken flash. I use TV mode for night or low light time then I bump my ISO and exposure compensation. This way I can still capture image with no flash. Or is there a better way. Yes I control my shutter speed.
Perfect. Great short mate. Cheers
I'm learning!
@@markwiemels mate it’s come up a treat. Looking forward to seeing how shorts work for you
Hi Mark, how are you doing ? Please can this lens be used to shoot pictures aside from video use which is their core? Thanks in advance for your quick revert
Yes, it can.
Pentax Glass vs Canon Full Frame Warning - There's an Iris Lever and a shield on the back of Pentax lenses that if used on Canon EF Full Frame cameras, the Mirror WILL JAM AGAINST. You can mount the lenses and uses them for video, but do so with the mirror already locked up and keep it locked up, otherwise you will damage the mirror mechanism. Some idiots break the sheild and the lever off, doing so kills the resale, especially as you can unscrew the back cover to remove the lever and/or replace the rear cover with a sheildless one. If you have the 50mm F1.2, NEVER damage the back of the lens, it's just stupid doing it on that one.
Afghan Girl most well known? Hrrrrm, It'd would have been close last century, but now, nope. Earth Rise by William Anders, and the photo of Bruce McCandless's untethered spacewalk would both be far more widely known, closely followed by Tank Man, though the latter is only found outside the Great Firewall.
The original Anamorphic lenses were created to have a smaller drivers window on a Tank, because that made it a harder target to shoot through. The originals were a Two Times squeeze, and that's what was adapted for Cinemascope Super Widescreen, when projected on to the 'full' 35mm 3x2 shaped film frame. Other squeeze factors came later as the used film frame was changed to add the space reserved for optical audio and the varied widescreen formats - 2 perf and the like. The 1.33 and 1.66 squeeze is only a recent trend, to match the shape of digital 16x9 sensors. Anyone shooting in an Open Gate Mode should expect vignetting on the wider lenses at this squeeze factor. *Open Gate Mode is where the full sensor 3x2 is used, the same as most DLSRs & MILC's shoot stills in, and better cameras have available for video.
Might be interesting to do a comparison with the original Minolta lens, and one around the $1000 mark, like the Pentax 500mm or 1000mm versions. The bokeh is, perhaps not 'intertesting', and certainly can be unpleasant. It certainly suits Stills much more then Video.
Can you make a comparison with cooke s8i?
I would love to, but at the price it's not a lens I can get my hands on.
@@markwiemels You can rent isn't 😉
@@arunr4103 Yes, in my area it's about $1k per day rental. I don't make that kind of money off these videos. Wish I did!
Why would you get this over a discounted Sigma 56 mm 1.4 which is smaller, too?
That's an APS-C lens, this is full frame, which can also used on APS-C.
I wonder how these compare to the Zeiss otus lenses
Vista vision is 8 perforations 35mm film, why is that supposed to be bigger than full frame if both are the same size? Am I missing something?
its the same height but a bit wider
Thank you for sharing this information! Will keep it in mind. Will i buy them? No. Who actually buys cinema lenses? But I will definitely rent them once I will need them.
Several years ago, I bought a TT Artisans 50 mm f/1.4 lens for the Leica M mount. I wasn’t impressed by the image quality and sold it.
I have the X100S since 2015 and understand the hype for X100VI. If you’ve been using Fuji X100 series since the start, you wouldn’t say it’s just a hype, specially for the x100v/vi. People have been buying the camera for a reason.. because it performs to their expectations. Now if you feel it’s overhyped, it’s because you bought into the hype and didn’t really know the camera series in the first place or didn’t researched about it first. You were thinking you’d get a super DSLR for this price or whatever camera you’be been imagining.
Silicone grid is a great idea!
I've been here for your lens reviews but had absolutely no idea you did videos on photography lessons and tips! I learned so much, thank you! Love your 'teaching' voice too, it's quite noticeably different from your other videos 😄 cheers
